Life as a Student

What to Expect

Making the adjustment to college is a lot easier if you know what to expect! Here are a few tips…

First Day of Class

It is very important that you attend the first day of class. You will meet your professor, who will outline the course and present you with a syllabus and other requirements and expectations.

HOLD ON TO THAT SYLLABUS! It is like a contract between you and the professor. It lets you know what is expected from you and what you should expect from the professor.

When you go to class, you should bring:

  • Something to write with
  • A notebook or other paper
  • Your textbook
  • Your class schedule

Check your Webmail

Your Pellissippi Webmail is the official college communication tool. This means that most professors – some may choose to communicate through Brightspace/D2L – and all college offices (including Financial Aid) use our campus Webmail to send you announcements, course materials, and other messages. Therefore, you will need to check your Webmail everyday to make sure that you don’t miss any important information. More information about Webmail is in the Campus Technology area.

Special Programs

For information on special programs, such as those for adult learners, veterans, students with disabilities, service learning, or studying abroad, check out their web pages.
